History
Troop 6 has one of the richest histories in Southern Indiana scouting. It was originally formed in 1920 in the company town of Speed Indiana. It was not originally chartered with the National Office, and was originally Troop 1 of Speed. When the George Rogers Clark Area Council was formed in 1927, they were officially numbered as Troop 6.
Jesse Dorsey
Jesse Dorsey was a fixture in the Speed Community from 1925 until his death in 1976. He ran the Speed Community House, which chartered the Troop in it's early years. He was a veteran of World War 1, and came to Speed in 1925. He had been a Scoutmaster in Louisville, so he assumed Scoutmaster duties at Troop 6 when he moved here.
Opening week of Camp Tunnel Mill - 1928
Troop 6 was one of the first Troops to attend the newly opened Tunnel Mill Reservation in 1928. Among those that attended that first year was Troop 6's first Eagle Scout Dr, James Himebaugh and future Indiana Secretary of State Charlie Hendricks.

Through the Years
Troop 6 has been a visible member of the Southern Indiana scouting community since those early years. Unfortunately the charter lapsed from 1989 to 2000 when it was reformed by a dedicated group of adult leaders. The troop has remained strong since then.
Into the future
Troop 6 is poised to continue to remain strong into the future, and to develop character, citizenship and fitness in the young men of the Sellersburg area.
